Brush for Better Sleep

Bedtime is an important time to brush your teeth. It’s always a good idea to remove the sticky, naturally occurring film called plaque from your teeth before settling in for the night. And, when you brush your teeth at night, they feel clean and your mouth tastes good.

A bedtime brushing habit might help you sleep better, too. A relaxing routine—such as brushing your teeth or reading—lets your body know that it’s time for sleep.

Other tips for peaceful slumber:

  • Go to bed at the same time every night, even on weekends. It keeps your biological clock synchronized.

  • Avoid large meals before bedtime.

  • Avoid bright light in the evening.

  • Get up at the same time every day, no matter when you went to sleep.

  • Unwind from daily activities early so your mind is clear at bedtime.

  • Exercise regularly so you’ll sleep better.

  • Sleep in a dark, cool, quiet room on a comfortable mattress.
